Our Governors

Welcome to our Governors’ section.

Our governors help to monitor the school by working closely with our head teacher and spending a morning in school every term scrutinising work books, carrying out lesson observations and acting as a critical friend of the school. They meet twice a term as a whole governing body as well as holding termly committee meetings to look at specific aspects of school life.

Chair of Governors

Mr Phil Clarke

Email: CoG@bildeston.suffolk.sch.uk

Joint Vice Chair of Governors

Mrs R Cohen

I became a Governor of the school when I retired in 2007 and am now in my second, four year term as a Local Authority Governor. This is my fourth year as Chair of Governors. I come into school on a regular basis and meet with the head teacher each week.

As a former head teacher myself and with over thirty years' teaching experience, I am very much aware of the need for a school to have a supportive and pro-active Governing Body. I am delighted to be chair of such a committed and hardworking group of governors who, as well as supporting the school, also act as critical friends.

As governors we feel able to ask challenging questions of the school in order to ensure that the education provided by Bildeston School is the best it can be. Each term we spend a day in school looking at what is going on and what the children are learning and with a quite specific focus. This means we can be fully in touch with what is happening in the classrooms and also provide evidence to support the school's improvement programme.

As a Whole Governing Body we meet twice a term and in addition our three main committees meet at least once a term.

I really enjoy being a school governor and keeping 'in touch' with what is happening in our local school. As a grandmother I value the opportunities I have to see what children are learning in schools in the 21st century.

If you are interested in becoming a school governor we would like to hear from you! It is a very rewarding role within the local community.

Mrs Heather Williams

I am joint vice chair of governors, originally of Whatfield Primary, starting in November 2016.

Prior to moving to Suffolk, I spent many years working for Kent County Council managing services such as admissions and transport, attendance and extended schools. I was also a governor at a small rural primary school.

I believe that all children should have the opportunity to reach their potential and that education is more than just schooling - it's the child's whole life experience. This is why I strive to include parents and families in everything we do in schools. I believe we should nurture our youngsters, giving them opportunities to explore and make sense of the complex world in which they are growing up.

I think that my experience as a parent and grandparent means that I can contribute to the future of both schools as they move into the next exciting phase of their development.

Local Authority Governor

Mr A Jacobs

I am a Local Authority appointed Governor for Bildeston Primary school.  I have over 40 years experience in education from a primary class teacher, through over 17 years of headship to Area Manager for School Improvement for a Local Authority. Most importantly though, I live in Bildeston and so feel very proud of the opportunity to give something back to two areas about which I care so much, our village and primary education.

Co-Opted Governors

Mrs D Murton-Cadby

I am a co-opted governor and I have a daughter at the school. I’m currently on the PTFA and served as secretary for the past year. I decided to become a governor because I’m passionate about being part of our community and our children’s development and education. I want to be part of a team that strives for excellence, is passionate about what they do and ultimately work to nurture our children to be the best they can be. I want to be able to support the school in working towards its aims in any way I can and I get to meet some really lovely people along the way.

Mrs Sally Hayes

I became a parent governor as I strongly believe in Bildeston Primary and its aims.

I believe in being a pro active member of the school community and aiding the school in moving forward in achieving its goals.

I now enjoy teaching in school and being part of the governing body in supporting all members to strive for an even better school.

Mrs L Coll

Associate Members

Mr Robert England

I became a parent governor in January 2012. I have one child at the school . My reasons for putting myself forward to become a governor, is that I am passionate about the importance of a good education and am happy to commit some of my spare time to this effect.

I am now chair of the Finance and Resources committee, who are responsible for overseeing the financial management of the school. The whole governing body work well together with good interaction between both teaching and non-teaching staff to ensure the best education for all.
