Our Governors

Welcome to our Governors’ section.

Our governors help to monitor the school by working closely with our head teacher and spending a morning in school every term scrutinising work books, carrying out lesson observations and acting as a critical friend of the school. They meet twice a term as a whole governing body as well as holding termly committee meetings to look at specific aspects of school life.

Chair of Governors

Mrs R Cohen

I became a Governor of the school when I retired in 2007 and am now in my second, four year term as a Local Authority Governor. This is my fourth year as Chair of Governors. I come into school on a regular basis and meet with the head teacher each week.

As a former head teacher myself and with over thirty years' teaching experience, I am very much aware of the need for a school to have a supportive and pro-active Governing Body. I am delighted to be chair of such a committed and hardworking group of governors who, as well as supporting the school, also act as critical friends.

As governors we feel able to ask challenging questions of the school in order to ensure that the education provided by Bildeston School is the best it can be. Each term we spend a day in school looking at what is going on and what the children are learning and with a quite specific focus. This means we can be fully in touch with what is happening in the classrooms and also provide evidence to support the school's improvement programme.

As a Whole Governing Body we meet twice a term and in addition our three main committees meet at least once a term.

I really enjoy being a school governor and keeping 'in touch' with what is happening in our local school. As a grandmother I value the opportunities I have to see what children are learning in schools in the 21st century.

If you are interested in becoming a school governor we would like to hear from you! It is a very rewarding role within the local community. I can be contacted at COG@bildeston.suffolk.sch.uk

Vice-Chair of Governors

Mr R England

I became a parent governor in January 2012. I have one child at the school . My reasons for putting myself forward to become a governor, is that I am passionate about the importance of a good education and am happy to commit some of my spare time to this effect.

I am now chair of the Finance and Resources committee, who are responsible for overseeing the financial management of the school. The whole governing body work well together with good interaction between both teaching and non-teaching staff to ensure the best education for all.

Co-Opted Governors

Mrs A Simmons

My name is Angela Simmons and I hold the position of Shark Class teacher and Co-opted governor.

Over the past 15 years, I have taught in many different schools and worked as a supply teacher for Bildeston for some time, before taking a more permanent role in 2010. I currently teach Shark Class (years 5 and 6), but have also taught years 2, and 3 at the school.

My role is to give the other governors a teacher's perspective on issues and action plans.

This is my first time as a governor and I look forward to working in partnership with the rest of the governor team, parents and staff for the benefit of the children.

Mr A Jacobs

I am a Local Authority appointed Governor for Bildeston Primary school.  I have over 40 years experience in education from a primary class teacher, through over 17 years of headship to Area Manager for School Improvement for a Local Authority. Most importantly though, I live in Bildeston and so feel very proud of the opportunity to give something back to two areas about which I care so much, our village and primary education.

Mrs S Hayes

I became a parent governor as I strongly believe in Bildeston Primary and its aims.

I believe in being a pro active member of the school community and aiding the school in moving forward in achieving its goals.

I now enjoy teaching in school and being part of the governing body in supporting all members to strive for an even better school.

Parent Governors

Mrs C Chaplin

I became a Parent Governor of the school in July 2010 and subsequently Chair of the Curriculum and Pupil Matters Committee. Prior to that I had been an active member of the PTFA and with three children at the school, I felt that joining the governing body was a natural step to ensure that they and all of the pupils receive the best education possible during their formative primary years.

Since becoming a governor, there have been two Ofsted reports and the progress and achievements that have been made since the 'Satisfactory' result from Ofsted in November 2010 are enormous. This can be seen through the school's improving academic results that we as governors see termly and of course the 'Good' Ofsted grading that the school rightly received in February 2013.

I enjoy being part of the friendly and hardworking governing body that supports the school's dedicated staff, who have created a safe and happy environment which I believe enables the children to learn, grow and reach their full potential. This is evident when we spend time in school with the children, which is certainly one of the highlights of the job.

Mrs N Gunton

I am a parent governor, having joined the Governing Body in September 2013. I have one child at the school and am eager to get involved and input some energy and enthusiasm into an already great school. I work as a senior staff nurse and feel that I can offer good leadership skills.

I am part of the Personnel Committee and have been overwhelmed by the effort all members of the committee make, how this contributes to the school running and education each child receives and am committed and passionate about being a part of it, enjoying spending time in school observing the learning environment.

I am also a member of the PTFA and am seeing firsthand the benefits of the funds raised by the sponsored/supported events.
